On Timicuro Island, in the Tambopata region, which is located at about 15 miles from Iquitos, you can visit the Monkey Reserve. It is a privately owned park, where nine species of monkeys find a home.

There are woolly monkeys, black uakaris, capuchins and others, all roaming free. Some of the monkeys have been kept as pets and were donated after the owners found out they cannot keep a monkey in the house.

Many jungle tour operators include a visit to this "Monkey Island" as part of their excursions on the Amazon.

You can also pay for a private boat trip, which should cost 30 to 50 dollars. You have to pay an entrance fee at the park itself, which is around 5 dollars per person. The proceeds are used to maintain the park and care for the animals.
