When
you travel to the heart of the Amazon rainforest, you may not expect a
thriving nightlife. But Iquitos, home to almost 400,000 people with an
average age somewhere around the mid-twenties, is a surprisingly happening
town!
|
|
One
of the reasons is that Iquitos is a university town. Here you will find the
UNAP, a public university with thousands of
students, but also the UPC, the UPO and institutes like Senati
and Cevatur.
|
|
And
Iquiteños simply love to party! There is a surprisingly high number of events going on every
day of the week, with street festivals, barbeques, rallies, concerts, etc.
Night
clubs and discos compete by organizing all kinds of events, like beauty contests
and live shows. Local bands perform every weekend during night-long
concerts at large vernues like the Complejo CNI or the Pardo.

|
Iquitos is also known for its open.minded
attitude and tolerance. It has a large and active gay
community, and gay discos like Asia and Adonis are among the most popular
clubs in town.
